Used on electronic test equipment, loudspeakers and amplifiers, binding posts were first developed in the 19th Century. Today’s binding posts are connectors used to attach a wire or test lead. They usually consist of a metal rod in the centre with a cap screwed on to it. They are generally wrapped in plastic and are colour coded. Red binding posts are active, black ones are inactive and green are ground or earth terminals. Binding posts are not advised to be used on equipment which is carrying dangerously high voltage.
